Photo Essay: Everyday life in Coimbra
On a sunny September evening, Mike and I decide to finish off a long working day with a drink by the Mondego river. Unsurprisingly, we are not the only ones to think this is the perfect spot to watch the comings and goings of everyday life in Coimbra as the sun goes down. We grab a table by the water’s edge outside the Irish Pub, our favourite bar in the riverside complex known locally as docas (pronounced dockush).
But these two young women have picked a quieter spot between the trees to share a bottle of wine.
Not everyone is relaxing, though. While we’re supping and chatting away, rowers are busy practising their skills as couples stroll across the colourful pedestrian bridge above them.
Normal, everyday activities for some, but I always feel as though I’m on holiday when I’m sitting by the river in Coimbra. Especially when I’ve got a glass of sweet, dark, Bohemia beer in front of me.

[...] really like the sweet, dark Portuguese beer, Bohemia. It’s deceptively strong and very moreish so it’s easy to lose track of how many I’ve had! [...]

Looks very relaxing and a wonderful way watch the world go by at the end of a working day!
It is, indeed, Barb.
You make it sound very tempting, Julie.
