Autumn at the Botanical Gardens in Coimbra
The summer sun is still going strong in Portugal but the leaves are starting to change colour and evenings are getting shorter and cooler, reminding us that autumn is just around the corner. Whilst I’m not looking forward to losing my evenings to daylight saving, I do enjoy the splash of warm colours that autumn brings to trees as their leaves die in a final blaze of glory. With that in mind, I spent a happy afternoon in the botanical gardens in Coimbra last November.
Here’s a selection of my photos from that day with thanks to Jakesprinter and his Sunday Post photography challenge for prompting me to use them in this way:

I think walking up Lime Tree Avenue is now on my bucket list! Beautiful pictures, I can’t believe how much leaf-fall you’ve had, ours is only just beginning.
These are from last November. Most of the leaves are still on the trees here too.
Lovely autumn colours, and I like the use of the slideshow to show the photos.
Thanks, Sami. The colours are so pretty, I agree.
Such a source of wisdom, isn’t she? Would never have thought of that. Very pretty, Julie. i love the Algarve’s subtle colour changes too.
Isn’t she just?! I never expected her to go off and dig out any info for me but I’m very grateful.
Great photos. I love autumn. Colours too.
Great work Julie for this week theme , I really love your post
Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Jake. As soon as I saw your theme for the week, I knew which folder of photos to raid.
lovely! and a great way of displaying some wonderful photos
Thank you! I’m never sure whether or not to use the slideshow but it seems to work well for this batch of photos. Trouble is, they seem a bit small. What do you think?
seemed ok to me – not sure how you make it bigger – there muse be a way?
mmm don’t think you can do much http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/
it’s set to the width of your theme – you’d need to add a slideshow plugin to get more control over it …
But… worth checking this first…
By default, the slideshow will use the medium version of the image that WordPress generates when you upload an image. You can change this default in the Settings panel or on a per-slideshow basis. The image sizes available are “thumbnail”, “medium”, “large”, and “full”. …
does that help?!?
No, I couldn’t change the size via settings but thank you so much for going to the trouble of finding this information for me, especially when you’re busy getting ready for the exhibition. You’re a star
