So many beautiful patterns on the tiles, Julie, all all so different! There's something strangely comforting about traditional things, isn't there?

BTW I don't seem to be getting your post updates any longer in my Reader :(

Don't worry Sofie. It is quite touristy but I really enjoyed Sintra, recommend it to others and am looking forward to visiting again. Try reading Beyond Lisbon blog for some less touristy recommendations in that area. I'd definitely try to make time for Convento dos Capuchos and Quinta Regaleira ( I probably spelt that wrong). When I go back I want to go to Monserrate palace and the countess' chalet.

If anyone missed the last temporary exhibit in the Lisbon tile museum follow this link to my images of the tiles http://bit.ly/17JoOl6 The first image really intrigued me as the diamond point tiles had been laid in a completely different configuration that optically introduced an extra large white & blue swirling square that was new to me. I just love it when something usual produces something unusual don't you?

I work in the place with the best view of both Porto and Gaia! I do the guides tours in the old Monastery overlooking the city - Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar. It's possible to climb to the balcony surrounding the dome of the round church.
It's a pitty you didn't go there, since it's right next to the bridge and Jardim do Morro. Here's our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PatrimonioaNorte?ref=hl
