Having spent so much time in Porto over the last 16 or so years, I’ve come to know the city well and I purposefully chose special accommodations that are in safe neighbourhoods and within walking distance of key attractions and restaurants so that you don’t have to waste time in transit.

Located right in front of the Douro River, 1872 River House gives wonderful scenic views over the riverside area. Many of the rooms blend gorgeous stonework with a clean classical look and offer either city or river views.
Staff are remarkably attentive and helpful and the breakfasts are amazing. This is a small, cosy accommodation and understandably popular so book well in advance, especially if you want to be overlooking the river.

Treat yourself with a stay in this little “castle” set amongst landscaped gardens. You can choose a room either in the Classic or Contemporary wing and even visit the private chapel set in the gardens. The original interior arcitecture and design of the main house has been carefully maintained so it feels like you’re stepping into another world, although the facilities, like bathrooms, have been modernised.

Malmerendas Boutique Lodging
Close to the iconic Bolhao Market is this boutique guesthouse. All of the suites and studios are designed with the history of the building in mind but using a clean contemporary decor. You can enjoy a peaceful garden and your own kitchenette is ideal for those little snacks.
