During my 18+ years of visiting Lisbon, I’ve stayed in several centrally located apartments and selected the options below based on location, comfort and professional management. All are in safe neighbourhoods within easy reach of key sights and transport links.

Serviced Apartments vs Holiday Rentals in Lisbon

In Lisbon you’ll find both independently managed holiday rentals and professionally operated serviced apartments. I tend to recommend properties with multiple units and professional management, as they offer more reliable service and clearer communication if any issues arise.

Serviced apartments in Lisbon combine the privacy of a self-catering stay with added conveniences such as lifts, reception desks or concierge services, making them a practical alternative to traditional hotels.

If you are travelling with more than 4 people, or need extra bedrooms, just be warned that 2 and 3-bedroomed are harder to find than studios or 1-bed apartments.

Apartments in Baixa, Lisbon

For a perfect central location try these gorgeous apartments in the heart of the Baixa neighbourhood. The decorative style of the property follows the Portuguese cermaic artist Bordallo Pinheiro with a lovely blend of ceramics and tiles.

These elegant apartments on Rua da Prata are classically decorated with pale tones and are full of light. It’s a traditional building recently renovated and all of the suites feature a fully equipped kitchenette. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Check availability and prices

For a fabulous art-fuelled stay in the Baixa. Each of the apartments are awash with colour. An elevator saves on those stairs and you can relax with a drink on the rooftop terrace. The penthouse apartment is located on the 6th floor and offers a stunning view of downtown Lisbon and the river. Very helpful and friendly staff. Check availability and prices

Based in a building emblematic of Pombaline architecture these spacious apartments are richly decorated and ooze luxury with velvet sofas and chandeliers. For that special occassion go for the Presidential apartment and look over the magnificent arch that connects Rossio square to Rua dos Sapateiros from your large balconies. Just a short walk from St. George’s Castle and Rossio Square, these apartments are stylish and comfortable and some come with a balcony and city views. Although centrally located it is very quiet. The kitchenettes are well equipped and staff are friendly and helpful. Check availability and prices

Located right across from the iconic Praça da Figueira, these apartments offer a range of superb apartments, studios and suites. Besides the charm of the square, you can get views of the castle and river. The furnishings reference what it would have been like in a 16th century merchant’s house. Chill out in an apartment in Chiado

Chiado Arty Flats

With such a wide choice of apartments and studios, this is a great option and just a short walk from Camões Square. Located within a building that once housed the República newspaper, all accommodation features a unique industrial-style décor from an award-winning architect.

Throughout, you’ll find colourful vinyls on the walls taken from the graffiti of the nearby Bairro Alto neighbourhood. Friendly staff will do their utmost to make your stay enjoyable. Check availability and prices

Enjoy Alfama with its famous views

Note that this part of the city is the oldest and is a maze of cobbled streets, some of which have steps and are therefore not driveable. Public transport is a bit limited, compared to the rest of the city centre.

A good choice of studios and apartments, set in the one building and all beautifully designed and decorated. They are spacious and light and suitable for couples or up to 6 people. The top floor studio ‘The River’ has lovely views over the rooftops of Lisbon. Not only are the premises sparkling clean, you won’t find a better concierge than Rui anywhere. To begin your Lisbon holiday in style, try this Exclusive Apartment Hotel, located in a relatively quiet residential part of old town Lisbon. You’ll find really beautiful apartments that have recently been renovated with a lot of love and attention to detail. The accommodation consists of two buildings separated by a beautiful interior garden.
