Fountain and wavy pavement on Rossio Square in Lisbon, Portugal

Why choose a holiday apartment in Lisbon when you could stay in one of the gorgeous hotels and guesthouses available?

Well, if space is important to you then a holiday apartment in Lisbon is worth considering. These offer kitchens that come with all you need for making simple meals to comfy living rooms for relaxing after a full day of sightseeing.

Throughout my 16+ years of visiting Lisbon, I’ve stayed in some great apartments in the city centre and although I still enjoy the comforts of a hotel for short stays, I prefer an apartment for a longer visit.

Staying in an apartment is also a great way to get to know the city on an intimate level, just like a local, as you’ll be popping to the local market or supermarket for groceries and treats.

If you’re travelling as a group, you can book a two or three bedroomed apartment and save quite a bit of money compared to having several hotel rooms. Just know that these are harder to find; studios and 1-bed apartments are more common. It’s also a challenge to find 2-3 bed apartments that have a bathroom for each bedroom.

To make choosing your accommodation easy for you, I’ve selected a range of holiday apartments in Lisbon city centre, with quality, value, location and comfort in mind. Some are luxurious, some quirky, and they are all certain to make your stay in Lisbon memorable.

Rather than recommending individually-managed apartments, I prefer to go for properties that offer more than one unit and are professionally-managed, just in case there are any issues.

Note: If you’re uncertain as to which neighbourhood you want base yourself in, take a look at my article about the best areas and accommodation in Lisbon if you’re coming for a sightseeing trip. If you’re looking for the best area to live in Lisbon, there are other neighbourhoods you may wish to consider.

For a wide choice of really lovely apartments check out Plum Guide. All homes have to pass meticulous tests and independent vetting before being accepted. This is probably your best bet if you need more than 2 bedrooms.

Wherever possible, I choose accommodations that follow sustainable practices, as indicated by the number of leaves (3 is the top score). No leaf simply means that I can’t verify their current efforts regarding sustainable travel but I love the property.
