The Portas da Cidade and the clock tower of Sao Sabastian church through the arch, Azores Portugal

Ponta Delgada, on São Miguel Island, is the capital of the Azores archipelago of Portugal and, as such, has some super places to stay. Based on my experiences of staying in this pretty city, here is my selection of Ponta Delgada hotels and other accommodation, including apartments.

All of these accommodation picks are no more than 5 km (3 miles) from the centre of the city and are ideal for exploring the biggest island in the Azores.

Wherever possible, I choose accommodations that follow sustainable practices, as indicated by the number of leaves (3 is the top score). No leaf simply means that I can’t verify their current efforts regarding sustainable travel but I love the property.

The charming Hotel Talisman is located in the historic centre of town overlooking a park and with a small rooftop pool. The interior of the hotel is fascinating, with elements of Azorean architecture blended with Art Deco, (I can’t decide which is my favourite area-the swirling staircase in reception or the ceiling in the dining room). Rooms are spacious, bright and clean. See available dates.

  1. Love reading your blog Julie! I live in the US but travel to Portugal every year. Next summer I plan to spend 2 months in the Azores. I only plan on a rental car for day trips. Beside Sao Miguel what other locations do you recommend for extended stays? Checking out your apt. recommendations!
    Thank you!
